Sensititvity to child rights - guardians of law and order

On 20th November 2008 C R L as part of its awareness drive in the child rights field addressed a group of 100 participants drawn from a group of Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) and Sub Inspectors (SI) who will be future Officers-in-charge of Crime Divisions of the Sri Lanka Police force at the Police Training College, Kalutara on ‘Why be sensitive to child rights’ at a session on child rights, a component of a seven day in-service training programme conducted by the Centre for the Study of Human Rights (CSHR), University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. C R L back again with new vigour

The insights developed during the revival and reflection period resonate with the mounting distress in economic, political, environmental, cultural and social spheres. These demand immediate action at individual, family, community, national, regional and international levels. In carving the strategic direction of   C R L the challenge that lies ahead of us is to understand and embrace this ground reality. Through our transformative child rights agenda we plan to adopt immediate measures to inspire and encourage adults and children, as well as institutions, into constructive action. We need to understand that the survival of all sentient beings on our mother earth depends on our ability to shed egoistic identity and expand the self to achieve a more harmonious balance and peaceful relationship with everything around us - people, animals, plants and the earth.

Final workshop before a short break

A wonderful day was unfolding. A number of figures stood motionless and still around the pond at Vishwa Niketan – the International Peace Center- in the soft glow of the early morning.

“Think of the nature’s bounty around you. The luscious greens with their healing qualities – healing minds and bodies, healing emotional upheavals of life as science proves conclusively. Nature has given our eyes a feast of colour – Let us absorb the universal strength that nature offers. Think of the soothing touch of the morning breeze wrapping itself around us cooling our bodies ………”
