“Let us dream of a Sri Lanka where the powerful will throw away their weapons, walk hand in hand with others forgetting that there was a country divided by war, conflict and violence.” – Dr Charika Marasinghe, Chief Guest at the Human Rights Law Diploma Award Ceremony of Institute of Human Rights (IHR) held on 15th February 2008 at Sausiripaya, Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Institute of Human Rights is a company registered under the Department of Social Services, Sri Lanka, actively involved in securing and protecting human rights and promoting human rights by providing access to justice, education, training, humanitarian assistance and empowerment of detainees and conflict affected persons. The Human Rights Diploma course content covers the subjects – International human rights framework, domestic human rights framework, civil and political rights, rights of vulnerable/marginalized groups and contextual human rights. The recipients had completed their respective diploma courses in Tamil, English and Sinhala, Among the guests was Mrs Tigger Brown ( Dr Charika Marasinghe’s surrogate mother in the U.K), the Co-founder of Helpage, Sri Lanka.
